Research Interest

Jón Örn Bjarnason received his Ph.D. in theoretical physical chemistry in 1980. Since then he has mainly been working on the chemistry of geothermal fluids. This has included chemical monitoring of the Svartsengi and Reykjanes geothermal fields and consultation for geothermal utilities in Iceland. His focus in recent years has been on thermodynamic computational models of equilibria between aqueous chemical species, rock minerals, and gases in geothermal steam. Most of his current work involves the development of software for such computations.

Jón Örn is on the permanent staff of Iceland GeoSurvey - ÍSOR, but is currently working as a visiting scientist with the GEYSIR group at the Institute of Earth Sciences at the University of Iceland.
